Dear Families:
Last Friday afternoon I received a call from the Office for Catholic Schools asking if Q13 News could send a photographer to take pictures of the outside of our building and the playground for a piece they were doing on private schools returning to in-person learning. They also asked to use some still shots that were taken last fall by the Fulcrum Foundation of some of our classes. The news story appeared on the evening news. Here is a link so that you can watch it too: https://www.q13fox.com/news/demand-for-private-schools
Thank you, once again, for all you are doing to help maintain our environment. Families who traveled over mid-winter break have quarantined and had their child/ren Covid tested before sending them back to school. We are so appreciative too, that parents are keeping kids home if they have any symptoms of illness. Let’s keep this Covid free streak going!
Last week, Fr. Colin and I met with the chairs of the Parish/School Combating Racism Task Force. Thank you to Gina Grothkopp, Beaven Walters and Merrie Williamson for agreeing to head this group. Plans are underway to begin examining the US Bishop’s Pastoral on Racism titled, “Open Wide Our Hearts” as well as discussions on implementation of the recommendations from the first Combating Racism Task Force from last Fall.
We have had some requests for information and resources on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, especially on ideas for discussion topics with children. Where previously this type of information would reside on the Counselor’s webpage, we have decided to have a designated section on our website. Mrs. Rousso, our school counselor, has gathered materials and posted them under “Families” on the opening page of our website. Please take a few moments to check out the resources.
Finally, we cannot thank our wonderful parent recess volunteers enough for stepping forward to monitor our students during their lunch recesses. Every slot has been filled until Easter break and many filled through the month of April! With teachers having very little time away from students during the day, hopefully, this will give more of them an opportunity to prepare materials for afternoon lessons and attend to tasks that they can’t get to during the teaching day!
Have a great week!
