Congratulations to our second graders who received their First Eucharist on Sunday at the 10:00am Mass. What a beautiful ceremony! Their faithfulness, innocence and respectful attitude, as they received Communion for the first time, was such a pleasure to witness. We are very proud of them. One of our Student Learning Expectation calls us to prepare graduates to be “Active Persons of Faith” and if Sunday’s Mass was any example, our second graders are well on their way. They are helping to plan the liturgy and will also be involved in the procession and crowning of the statue of Mary during our all-school May Crowning Mass next Thursday, May 10th at 8:45am in the church. It is a special springtime tradition during May, the month of Mary, and we encourage you to join us.
One of the highlights of any student’s experience at St. Anne School has to be the 5th grade outdoor education trip to OPI (Olympic Park Institute). It is always mentioned by our graduating 8th graders as one of the best memories of their years here. This past Wednesday through Friday, our 5th graders spent their days on the shores of Lake Crescent in science exploration of old growth forests, tide pools, marine eco-systems along with canoeing and campfires. The happy class of campers arrived home Friday evening well energized, and very tired from their experience.
Springtime (usually) always brings sunshine and a chance for parents to chat in front of the school at dismissal. Students are also excited with the warm temperatures and the increase in outside activities. But, with over 200 young people exiting the building each day, safety is paramount. Please honor the work of the safety patrol and only cross at the crosswalks. Do not stand in the street or allow your child to run across Lee St., mid-block. There are often cars that pull out of the angle parking spots when the street is still closed and it presents a dangerous situation.
Congratulations to our 6th grade boys’ volleyball team. They finished 2nd in the CYO Championship game. The series of three games came down to the final points with the teams tied right up until the end. Great job and great sportsmanship by our team!
Finally, this Wednesday, May 2nd at 2:15pm (Grades K-4) and 3:15pm (Grades 5th – 8th) in Banchero Hall, the try-outs for our annual Talent Show will be held. Attached are all of the details. Mark your calendars for the “Feast of Gifts” show at 1:15pm on Thursday, May 24th.
Have a great week!
