Memorial Day Prayer Assembly

May 28, 2024

Dear Families,

This morning, our second grade students and Mrs. Lanouette shared with us why we celebrate Memorial Day–a day in which we honor all the soldiers who died serving their country. All the students carried flags and wore poppies to honor all the fallen soldiers. They shared the poem, In Flanders Field, written by a veteran of World War I which described the poppies growing where once there was war.  In 1920, the American Legion adopted the red poppy to memorialize the soldiers who fought and died during the war. We ended with a prayer for all who serve to protect our freedoms.

Parent Association Chairs and Room Parent Appreciation:  This morning we honored our room parents with a card and thank you for all the work they do to keep this school running smoothly. Our room parents work tirelessly organizing parents in their classes to be volunteers for classroom work, auction work, teacher appreciation and all the community building events the Parent Association schedules throughout the year. And thank you to our wonderful Parent Association Chairs Minou Reisinger and Kris Lund.  They have worked tirelessly to create fun events for St. Anne School. They always work with a spirit of inclusivity and positivity.  We are excited to announce that they have agreed to be Parent Association chairs next year! Thank you, thank you, thank you to our chairs and room parents!

Sweet Goodbye’s and Thank You’s to Fr. Colin: Last Thursday, the students took time to make notes, pictures and cards to present to Fr. Colin. They shared how they will miss his spiritual leadership and his great sermons at our Friday morning Masses. The students presented him with the celebratory 100th Anniversary photo of the blessing of the school–the same one that hangs in the Banchero Hall hallway. And all the students signed the frame!  We wished him the best as he moves to his new parish family.

Broadway Review: Thank you to all our K-5th grade students for their wonderful performance at the Broadway Review last Thursday. Thank you to Ms. Kassebaum for her wonderful teaching and directing.  And thank you to Ryan Barber for recording the show.  Here is the link: https://youtu.be/40zTciaGIUs?si=FeSoN6KwYLGZIySM

Learning Celebration:  We are excited to welcome you on Thursday, May 30th to Learning Celebrations.  This is an opportunity for your student to share their learning and growth throughout the school year with you. Each time slot hosts a maximum of four student/parent groups. The classroom teacher will be available to discuss student growth and progress.  There will be a place for siblings to sit and wait just outside the classroom with a chance to read or do a provided activity sheet. The students have worked hard this year and it is great to celebrate their growth!

Field Day:  This is always a favorite day of the school year.  Students should be dropped off as usual, and after class attendance and announcements, they will join their school “Family” in the gym at 8:45 am to launch the day of cheers, games and activities.  The school will be providing pizza and popsicles at lunch for all students this year!  Water will be available to all.  Students can bring an alternate lunch if necessary.  Students should come dressed for the weather!

EF Bootcamp!:  We had our final Executive Function training last week on “Attention and Motivation”.  Thanks to the parent community for suggesting it for last year’s Fund Iit. Thank you to all who have been able to attend the sessions throughout the year. Building our collective understanding of these important learning tasks will make a difference to all our students. And thanks to those who were able to review the slides and materials sent out and practice strategies on your students!  Here is a link to the slides from last week. Some additional Motivation and Attention links.
