ADVENT BEGINS
Yesterday, we began our school celebration of Advent at our Prayer Assembly with the lighting of the Advent Wreath and the singing of our Advent song. This long-standing, much loved tradition is joyful and heart-warming. Each morning, leading up to Christmas, we will gather in the main hallway (believe it or not, 259 students find a way to fit!) for our Advent celebration. Please feel free to join us in our crowded hallway on any Tuesday through Friday. We will continue to light the wreath at our Prayer Assemblies too. It is not to be missed!
Our all-school Advent Service Project is underway. We are collecting waterproof gloves and warm, thick socks to be distributed to the guests at the annual parish Dinner with the Homeless to be held on December 11th. With over 300 attendees from shelters in the area, we need to collect lots of socks and gloves! Each classroom will have a collection box for the items and donations will be accepted through December 11th.
LOCKDOWN DRILL
This morning we held a school-wide lockdown drill. Just as we practice our fire and earthquake drills, it is important that students know the steps they need to take in the event of a lockdown. To prepare for the drill, teachers told them about it in advance and reviewed the details of where to go and what to do in the event of an emergency requiring a lockdown. Discussions took place in the classroom following the drill and teachers took notes on what worked and any questions that came up. Though the school is in a modified lockdown, with all entrance doors locked every day, it is necessary for them to feel comfortable with procedures for any unexpected event.
FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
Please join us this coming Friday, December 8th at the 8:45am Mass as we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The third-grade class is helping with preparations and will take an active role in the Liturgy. Please make sure your child is on time for school so that they can join their class before heading over to church.
