At St. Anne, we encourage students to be creative and passionate about their interests! There are always opportunities to start a club by talking with the principal and advocating for grade-level involvement. We currently have a Music Club, Math Club, and Dungeons and Dragons club.
Chess Club
The St. Anne Chess Club is led by Josh Sinanan, President of the Washington Chess Federation and National Chess Master, who teaches all levels of chess to our K-8th grade students. Players meet in-person on Wednesdays after school and practice chess puzzles and play chess games with peers. Chess tournaments are hosted by St. Anne and attract 100+ scholastic chess players from all over the Puget Sound. The proceeds from these tournaments has enabled the St. Anne Chess Club to replace and upgrade all of our equipment, purchase ChessKid memberships, and bring in Josh Sinanan to coach! Some players love the tournaments and others just prefer to play casual chess; all participation levels are encouraged and are welcome. Please contact Carlee Thorrington with questions.
Speech Team
As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said: “Speech is power: speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel.” The award-winning St. Anne Speech Team is open to all middle school students who want to improve their public speaking skills through participation in speech tournaments held at local high schools. Students learn to organize their thoughts and deliver speeches with energy, emotion, expression, proper pace, and more. Participating in the speech team is is a positive, team-based experience that orators will take with them their whole lives. Practices begin in mid-October and commence at the end of February.
Celtic Pride Club
The Celtic Pride Club creates fun and thoughtful school events for students. This elective requires teamwork and leadership skills! Key responsibilities include organizing spirit assemblies, announcing sport scores at Monday Prayer Assemblies, creating free spirit dress days, and working with younger kids in the classroom. The goal for each member of the Celtic Pride Club is to develop leadership and teamwork skills and to develop confidence public speaking.
