School Commission

The school commission serves as an advisory body to the principal, school administration, and the pastor, making recommendations on policy, programs, and school improvements in support of the ministry for the good of the school community. 

Through monthly meetings and continual work throughout the year, the School Commission responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

  • Planning, Strategy & Execution
    • Formulate a periodic strategic plan (5 years) with long range goals for the school and a plan to achieve them.
    • Recommending goals and priorities for each year and for future development of the school and maintenance of facilities.
  • Policy Development and recommendations
    • Evaluating the educational goals and policies of the school
    • Providing feedback on educational goals and policies of the school
  • Finance
    • Monitoring school budget, tuition and salary schedules
  • Public Relations & Communications
    • Advocating for the school in the larger parent community
    • Stating the philosophy of the school.
  • Evaluation 

The School Commission is made up of 8-12 members who serve a renewable 3 year term. Members are selected through an annual nomination and discernment process. Nominations are open in spring annually. Eligibility requirements include:

  • Uphold the mission and vision of the school and support the Catholic faith of the school community.
    • A non-Catholic parent of a child enrolled in the school may be a member of the commission.
  • Represent the Commission and assist at important school events
  • Ability to work with a high level of integrity and confidentiality
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other members to make decisions that benefit the school community, including respectful dialogue and dissent.
  • Willingness to receive feedback from the school/parish community and be a channel of communication between parents and the school.
  • Address situations with the best interests of the entire school & parish community in mind.
  • Availability to attend the majority of the monthly meetings (September-June) as well as periodic in-service programs and commit to participate in committee work outside of meetings
