At our Prayer Assembly on Monday, Ms. Marr shared with us the story of St. Francis of Assisi. She shared the prayer of St. Francis. It reads: Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.  This is the focus for our good work this week.  We want to also take a moment of thankfulness for all the pets and stuffies who were brought into the school gym last Friday morning for a blessing from Fr. Dominic. There were many joyful sounds from the gym!

Yesterday, the teaching staff attended a workshop by Jodee Blanco who spoke about the phenomenon of bullying and provided response strategies to help support students. In addition, some of our families were able to attend her presentation to parents that was held at St. John School.  She will be providing staff and parents with written resources that I will share with you later this week.  Thanks to all who were able to come.  This is the same speaker who gave an age appropriate presentation to our students last Thursday–one for our K-4th grade students and the other for our 5th-8th grade students.

Conferences at the end of the month:  For our PreK through 5th grade conferences, parents attend.  For our 6th through 8th grade, both students and parents attend–these are designed to be student led.  You may also sign up to meet with a specialist.  Conferences are an important time to hear about your student’s learning and growth and a time to discuss successes as well as goals for their continued learning. Conference confirmation will go home in the youngest student backpack on Friday, October 18.
