2024-25 School Theme: “Guide me in your truth and teach me.” –Psalm 25
Dear Families,
I love this time of year when we pivot into October learning. We had September to adjust to new classrooms, teachers and learning expectations; meet new members of our school community; and establish the rules that will increase learning. Classrooms are a little cooler and the brightness of fall days sheds light in new places. October is a time of lots of learning and growth for students. Don’t forget the importance of good sleep and healthy breakfasts to set them up for a productive day.
At yesterday’s Prayer Assembly, Señor Soto introduced Hispanic Heritage Month with a reflection on the good work of Delores Huerta. She was a leader of the Chicano Civil Rights movement. She began her working life as a schoolteacher but then turned her attention to creating equitable living conditions for farm workers. In 2012, she received the Congressional Medal of Freedom. Señor Soto led all the students in praying the Hail Mary in Spanish.
A Little Gratitude:
- To all who worked to make the Fall Carnival a success! Your work helped create a memorable community event. A special thanks to Parent Association chairs, Kris Lund and Minou Reisinger. And thanks to Ester Burkhart and Monica Flora in our development office for all their work.
- We are grateful to gather for our Friday Masses each week! Thank you Fr. Freitag and Fr. Dominic! This Friday we will gather in the PreK parking lot at 8:30am for our annual Blessing of the Animals (no Mass for students on Friday). Fr. Dominic will lead the blessing. Don’t be late–the blessing lasts about five minutes!
Move-A-Thon Coming Up! A healthy way to keep our budget healthy! On Thursday, October 10, St. Anne students will spend an hour running and walking to raise money for the school budget. Look for all the fundraising details below. Here are a few important reminders:
- 9 more days until the Move-A-Thon – Thursday, Oct. 10th 1:30pm
- Hopefully your student has created their fundraising page and started inviting friends and family to sponsor.
- Watch your email for more updates & details from the development office and Move-A-Thon parent chairs, Danielle Gilliland & Edna Maddalena.
Extracurricular Opportunities Coming Up! Chess Club will be starting November 6. Here is the link to sign up for the club and hear about all the details.
October Executive Function Skills! This month the skills we are focusing on is Time Management and Task Initiation. The link takes you to the presentation from last year and has reminders of strategies that help grow these skills and support student learners. Time Management is the capacity to estimate how much time one has, how to allocate it, and how to stay within time limits and deadlines. It also involves a sense that time is important. Task Initiation is the ability to begin projects without undue procrastination, in an efficient or timely fashion.
Student Learning this week! On Thursday morning, Jodee Blanco, NYT bestselling author and acclaimed bullying expert, will speak to both our K-4 and 5th-8th students. In conjunction with area Catholic schools, we have also brought her in to speak to our parent community. Please try and attend the Parent Presentation:
