Our St. Anne Irish Dancers and Finding Nemo
March 19, 2024
Dear Families,
Spring has sprung! Everyone’s step is a little lighter as we receive the benefits of some sunshine. Our Lenten journey continues with prayer, fasting and almsgiving and next week brings the sacred time of Holy Week. Please use this church link to see what services and events will be offered at the church.
It was “Skip Day with the Principal and Vice-Principal” for Evelyn (8th) and Stella (8th) today! This was an item from the “Footloose” auction last year. A huge thank you to the families that purchased it. Their support of our school programs is appreciated. The day included starting at TopPot for donuts, a morning of helping Ms. Scheller with her PE class, some golf at Flatstick, Pizza lunch in the principal’s office with friends, more PE and finishing with ice cream at Molly Moons! You can look forward to some wonderful offerings at this year’s auction too!
Report cards go home today (Kindergarten will be delayed one week). This is a wonderful opportunity to engage your student in a conversation about what they are learning. Be curious and caring with them. Find out what they are most excited about with their learning. And find out goals they are setting for themselves as they enter the final trimester of this school year. These kinds of conversations help students keep a growth mindset, become strong problem solvers and enable stronger, self-directed learners. We are so grateful to partner with you in your student’s learning and faith journey.
Hope you were able to join us for State of the School. I was able to share information about the financial health of our school, discuss our current academic, technology, Catholic identity and facilities initiatives, and talk about the work of the School Commission and Parent Association this year. Our common purpose is the health and well-being of each student in the school. The more collaborative we can be, the more successful we can be.
EF Parent Bootcamp: EF Bootcamp is tomorrow night in the 7th grade classroom on the topic “Understanding Working Memory”. Please RSVP and plan to join us for our important, collective work on executive function. As usual, the teaching staff will also be receiving training on the EF topic at their staff meeting tomorrow.
We finished off last week with two wonderful events on the Banchero Hall stage.
- Lower school drama performance of Finding Nemo! The drama students put on a great show last Thursday demonstrating their singing, dancing and acting skills! Thank you students for your work and energy performing! Thank you to director, Sam Stack with assistance from Mo Mershon for directing and orchestrating this production from start to finish. And thank you to the dedicated parents who helped with set design, costumes, lighting and sound.
- Tara Academy Dancers! Last Friday the stage was filled with Irish music and beautiful dancing. The final clogging piece with almost the whole ensemble was spectacular. We are so grateful to St. Anne Alums, Sara Raney Williams, and Julie Raney, for keeping this tradition alive for our school. And thank you to our students who are members of the troupe, Aislinn Jerrell (K), Eli Jerrell (5th), Quinn Raney-Ernst (6th) and Cadence Jerrell (7th), for sharing their dancing talents with all of the school. We sent them off with our traditional, end of day Irish blessing.
Thank you to our sixth grade class for leading us in a beautiful, reflective Stations of the Cross last Friday morning. This prayerful practice gave us time to reflect more on the journey of Lent, find connections to our lives and consider how the Way of the Cross can guide us in our work to be good people.
This Wednesday morning, we have Julie Church coming to speak to our 5th-8th grade students on the topic of “Fueling the Teenage Body”. She is a nutritionist who will provide insight into how to give our body what it needs to manage our work and activity load day in and day out.
For your planning purposes, here is some information about activities next week. On Friday, March 29, students will gather for a Simple Meal. There will be no hot lunch that day. The school provides a simple meal for everyone of water, saltine crackers and ramen. If your student is unable to eat these items, please have them bring their own simple meal.
On March 29, in the afternoon at 2:15pm, the 8th and 5th grade students will be leading Stations of the Cross. Please join us. Students will leave the church and school in silence.
