Dear Families:
Last Friday, after a two-year delay due to Covid, Fr Colin blessed Mrs. Peterson’s Corner. Mrs. Bev Peterson was a beloved PreK aide who was on staff with us from 2010 to 2019. A favorite among students of all ages, she passed away suddenly in November of 2019 after a short 5-month bout with cancer. She had a deep love and appreciation for reading and with generous donations from our school community following her death, we created Mrs. Peterson’s Corner in her memory. Located just outside the PreK classroom, it is open to students for small group work or to sit and read a book. We were fortunate to welcome Mrs. Peterson’s husband Ty and daughter Riley for the blessing. Special thanks to Mrs. Austin who hung the wallpaper making the corner look like the reader is sitting in a forest of trees. We look forward to the time we can welcome you into the building to see it.
Next week (Feb. 14th – 17th) marks our celebration of Catholic Schools Week. By delaying it for two weeks past the national celebration, we thought our Covid numbers would be low enough to allow more of the gatherings that are a special part of our traditional activities. The Covid numbers are still too high, so we continue to adjust our plans.
On Monday, February 14th, besides celebrating Valentine’s Day (red, white and pink free dress), we are recognizing the unique gift of our parents. We invite you to join us for “Thanks a Latte” to start your day. You are welcome to park on the playground as you drop your children off at school and join us in the gym, or pick-up a pre-made latte as you drive through. Watch for a special note from your child Monday after school.
Tomorrow, for the first time this year, our students will gather in their school Families. It is always a welcome highlight when they get together to work on an activity. Students will be decorating thank-you posters to be delivered to area businesses on Community Appreciation Day next Tuesday. All Covid safety protocols will be followed as they work together. We hope to have more chances through the end of the year to engage in Family activities. The students from Kindergarten through Eighth grade, really love them.
Have a great week.
Mary
