Dear Families:
Welcome to June! When the “Stay at Home” order began in mid-March, I never imagined we would still be spending our days away from the building with remote learning. It is getting very old and hard on everyone! But, I am so proud of our students (and their parents) for making the most of this difficult situation. With the typical rhythm of springtime so disrupted, our students have still embraced learning, adjusted to remote end-of-the-year activities, and been creative in supporting their classmates. A perfect example of this was our virtual Field Day last Friday. I know it was disappointing on so many levels, especially for our 8th grade Family leaders, but they worked hard on cheers and encouraged the younger students to make the most of it. Seeing the smiling faces of so many on the Zoom call made it all easier to take.
Now, it is on to more traditional activities turning virtual. Please join us as we send our 8th graders off to high school with some special events this week. On Thursday morning, June 4th, please join us for “Affirmations” where the middle school teachers recognize each student for their unique gifts. The lower grades also participate with words of good-bye and good luck with small tokens of remembrance from each class. That evening at 5:00pm, we will be celebrating the Class of 2020 at the Graduation Mass. Following the liturgy, we will be awarding diplomas and awards. Here is a link for you to access both events.
Just a reminder that next Wednesday, June 10th from 9:30am – 12:30pm we will be having a materials pick-up/book drop off for grades K-7th. Teachers are gathering all personal items from desks and lockers, bagging them up, labeling them with your child’s name and having them available on tables on the playground. Yearbooks will also be distributed to those who ordered them at this time. If your last name begins with:
A-G please come between 9:30am and 10:30am
H-P please come between 10:30am – 11:30pm
Q-Z please come between 11:30pm and 12:30pm
Please enter the playground from 2nd Ave. West (as usual) and follow the circular pattern to grade level tables to pick up materials and drop off textbooks. You will exit out the 1st Ave. West gate. If the above assigned time does not work for your family, please come when you can, but definitely before 12:30pm.
Next Friday, June 12th, our last day of school (even remotely) we will be having an end of the year Mass at 10:00am. We will send you the link to access the liturgy.
Finally, please remember to keep current on your Stewardship Giving pledge to the parish. With onsite Sunday Masses unable to be held, the weekly income for the parish has dropped considerably. Currently, the parish is $44,000 behind on budgeted income. We are a ministry of the parish and without a strong base of income, the school could suffer too. Just last week, the Fr. Colin and the Pastoral Council made a commitment to keep the current school subsidy the same for next school year, even in light of the struggles they are encountering. This is a huge commitment. Please, put your best effort into supporting our parish in any way you can!
Have a great week!
Mary
