Dear Families:
Last Friday we celebrated the rescheduled Student Appreciation Day! The highlight of the day was the 8th grade v. faculty volleyball game. If you notice bright smiles on the faces of the 8th graders, it is because they were victorious and soundly defeated the faculty. It was a hard-fought battle going to the third game to determine a winner. The gym was full of cheers of support for both the 8th grade and the teachers. Pretty frenzied, but definitely showing how these students love to support their school.
Work is going strong on our newest Five-Year Strategic Plan. Using information and data from the Town Hall meeting and the Strategic Planning Survey, the Topic Teams gathered last Wednesday night to identify strategic, attainable and measurable goals to recommend to the School Commission. The process is energizing and will give us clear direction for continuous school improvement. Over 30 parents/parishioners are working on one of four Topic Teams in the areas of Catholic Identity, Programs, Technology or Resources. Final goal recommendations will be presented to the School Commission on March 10th. I will keep you posted as progress continues.
We have heard from a few families who have plans to extend their vacation on either end of the break. Please do not request that students be given assignments ahead of time. This puts an unreasonable burden on teachers while they are still preparing lessons for the current week. Students are encouraged to check teacher websites or contact a friend while they are gone if they want to try and keep current. If you have questions, please refer to the policy on page 24 of our Family Handbook.
Just a reminder that we do not have school this coming Friday, February 14th. While students enjoy Valentine’s Day at home, the faculty and staff will be participating in the Archdiocesan “Christ in the Classroom” mid-year retreat.
Finally, I hope you and your family have a relaxing mid-winter break. For those looking for snow, I hope you find it (and please don’t bring any here). For the rest of us…sun would be very welcome!
Have a great week!
