Christmas is in the air! Last Thursday our sixth through eighth graders spent a morning in an Advent retreat organized by Mr. Haffey and facilitated by the middle school teachers. They began their day attending Mass, followed by prayer and time to reflect on the blessings in their lives. During the season of Advent and Christmastime, our year-long theme, “Taken, Blessed, Broken, Given” has moved from focusing on “Taken” to reflecting on “Blessed”. The students ended their morning working in cross-grade level teams building gingerbread houses together. I’m not sure if more candy went on the houses or in their mouths, but they were certainly enjoying themselves.
Last Tuesday, our PreK and their fifth grade Buddies braved the sunny but frigid temperatures as they went Christmas caroling to Queen Anne Manor. Along the way they stopped at shops and businesses singing holiday songs. The residents at Queen Anne Manor truly enjoy seeing the little ones each year and the fifth graders were so attentive and encouraging to their Buddies. A video produced by Ryan Barber (PreK Parent) was graciously shared with us and has been uploaded onto the main page of our website. Please take the time to enjoy this.
With our Advent candle lighting ceremony each morning, the Christmas pageant next week, and a visit by Santa Claus on Friday, December 21st, it truly is “beginning to look a lot like Christmas”!
Please join us tomorrow morning at 8:45am for the Feast of Our Lady Guadalupe and our all-school Mass. The fifth graders have been working on preparing the readings and responses as well as a short reenactment of Our Lady’s appearances to Juan Diego near Mexico City in 1531.
Finally, not only Christmas is coming, but our biggest FUN-raiser of the year is on the horizon… our annual auction! Get ready for “Hollywood Nights – Lights, Camera, Auction”. Parent Procurement is underway and each family is asked to donate items totaling a minimum of $200. The best sellers by far are the parent hosted dinners or parties. Grab some friends and put together an evening of fun. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. More information is available on the auction post below. Springtime will be here before we know it!
Have a great week!
