Dear Families:
We made it through the first week of school! It was a happy, energizing and productive start to the year. I truly think the students are excited to be back to their friends, their routine, and of course, the opportunity to learn!
We ended our week with a beautiful celebration of our Back-to-School Mass on Friday morning. Fr. Tony used the gospel reading of the miracle of the loaves and the fishes to expand on our school theme of Taken, Blessed, Broken, Given. Using the word, Taken he explained to students how we need to take opportunities that are presented to us and realize that God is with us and gives us exactly what we need. We may not always understand, but we need to “take” what is presented to us. Thank you to Mr. Haffey and students from various grades for their preparation and participation in the liturgy.
Tailgate party
Later Friday evening we welcomed our new school year with a Family Tailgate Party Nothing makes it feels more like fall than the arrival of football season, CYO Soccer, Cross Country, and Tailgating! Thank you to Alitha Regalia for organizing this marvelous event! She had a great team of helpers who assisted with set-up, cooking and clean-up. Thanks too, to Alan Rosado for providing the music, and the Levich Family for the keg. It was a great way to kick off the new school year with barbequed hamburgers, hotdogs, side-dishes and desserts. Even the rain showers couldn’t dampen the fun!
Back to School Night
Please join us, this Thursday, September 13th at 7:00 pm in Banchero Hall for our Back-to-School Night. We will start with a general session and then proceed to individual classroom presentations. This evening is a wonderful opportunity to be an active participant in your child’s education. You will have time to meet your child’s teacher, hear about his/her curriculum and get answers to any questions you might have. There will be two sessions for those of you who have more than one child. We hope to have you on your way home no later than 8:30pm. Doors will open at 6:45pm for you to arrive early and visit our volunteer tables. You can learn more about volunteer opportunities, events and ways to get involved.
Please remember that this evening is for parents only. There is simply not enough room in the classrooms for both parents and students to be present. Children are welcome, however, to join us for our Open House on January 27, 2019.
Jubilee Youth Choir
Mrs. Mills will again be directing Jubilee Youth Choir this year at all Youth-led Masses and hope that you are as excited as I am to begin a new year of music ministering. Regarding continued or new participation, you can sign up at Back to School Night or email Mrs. Mills to have your child(red) added for this year. Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays from 7:45 – 8:25 AM up in the Music/Drama Room starting on Tuesday, September 18.
After School Pick-Up
Finally, just a reminder about after-school pick-up. Please remind your children to cross with the safety patrol, to never run across or stand in Lee Street (even though the street is closed, cars often ignore the signs) and to not meet you in No Parking spots. With 260 students leaving this building each day, safety has got to be our #1 priority.
Have a great week!
