“We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage.” ~Mt 2:2
On Sunday, we celebrated the Epiphany of the Lord. The tradition of the magi bringing gifts to the newborn King helps underscore our theme for the school year, “Come and See”, recognizing that in honoring His holy presence, we can all share in the miracle that is Christmas. As we head into the new year – if we can remember daily how to be a gift to others – then the season will never really end.
Please join us in welcoming our new night-time custodian, Mr. Heti Lemalu. A fellow parishioner, Heti recently retired from a military career at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a Nuclear Zone Manager and Pipefitter. His desire to keep actively engaged, led him to us. He comes with excellent recommendations. As one former supervisor said, “He’s a hard worker. If ever we wanted anything to get done, and get done right, we’d give it to Heti!” Mr. Lemalu will be here Monday through Friday evenings. Please welcome him if you see him.
Through monies provided by last spring’s auction Fund-It, our educational consultant, Hanna Bogen Novak will be returning to our school on Wednesday, January 24th and 25th. In addition to her on-going work with teachers and students, she will be presenting two age-specific sessions for parents. Those who were present for her talk in September gave her rave reviews and asked that she provide additional information and strategies for parents. On Wednesday, January 24th from 8:30-9:30am in the church Assembly Room, Hanna will be presenting: Supporting Regulation: Spotlight on Strategic Thinking Skills for parents with young people in grades 5th-8th. The detailed approaches will focus on development of emotional regulation, self-regulation and independent thinking skills. On Thursday, January 25th at 8:30am also in the church Assembly Room, the presentation, Supporting Emotional Growth in the Early Years will be for parents of children in grades PreK-4 focusing on similar age-appropriate tactics. There will be time following the presentations for questions/answers. Don’t miss this opportunity! You are welcome to attend either or both sessions.
Just a reminder that there will be no school next Monday, January 15th as we honor the memory and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Have a great week!
