Have you ever left the school auction wondering, “How did we just spend that much money on ONE item?” That is how we felt when we realized we had just spent $2,200 after a back and forth battle with other bidders to win a ………Pickleball party??
Well, a huge shout out to the Schrock’s, Downer’s and Kalafatis’s for hosting what just might have been the greatest auction party of all time: The 1st Annual St Anne Pickleball Tournament.
This extravaganza was held last Friday night at the Downer’s home and in addition to the hosts, ten other St Anne couples showed up ready to compete.
There was a fabulous, never-ending spread of food, a specialty cocktail was served, the
Pickleball court and backyard was beautifully decorated and festive and the backdrop for it all was the Downer’s unbeatable view of our awesome city.
The hosts provided themed costumes, split us into teams then the mixed double’s tournament began. Competition was incredibly fierce and hilarious and it all ended with an official awards ceremony (congratulations Carolyn Carlesimo and Sean Matt) with prizes, a podium and all.
I laugh as I hesitate to share any of this as it will only make the item harder to secure at next year’s auction. But, the night was so special it reminded me of the importance not only of supporting the school through these often tedious and expensive parties we procure and purchase. But more importantly, of the bonding and sense of community that takes places at these events. It truly was a magical night……and worth every penny!
Thank you Downer’s, Kalafatis’s and Schrock’s for an evening to remember.
