Nothing makes it feels more like fall than the arrival of Seahawk season, college football, CYO Soccer and Tailgating! Last Friday evening a wonderful Welcome Back Tailgate party was held on the playground. It was a great way to kick-off the new school year with barbequed hamburgers, hotdogs, side-dishes and desserts, all on a warm, summer-like evening. Thank you to Sam and Tim Stack for organizing this marvelous event! They had a great team of helpers too who assisted with set-up, cooking and clean-up. Thanks too, to Alan Rosado for providing the music, Targy’s Tavern for the keg and Ken’s Market for the vegetables.
We had a beautiful celebration of our Back-to-School Nativity of Mary Mass on Friday morning celebrating the birthday of our mother Mary. Fr. Tony talked about special preparations families make for the birth of a child and that it was no different for Mary’s parents, St. Anne and St. Joachim. He compared the birth of a child to the newness of a school year and the anticipation for growth and milestones ahead. It set a perfect tone for the 2017-18 school year. Thank you to our 7th graders for their preparation and participation in the liturgy.
Back to School Night! Please join us tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 13th for our Back-to-School Night. We will start with a general session and then proceed to individual classroom presentations. This evening is a wonderful opportunity to be an active participant in your child’s education. You will have time to meet your child’s teacher, hear about their curriculum and get answers to any questions you might have. Doors will open by 6:45pm for you to arrive early and visit our volunteer tables. You can learn more about volunteer opportunities and events. The Uniform Exchange will also be available for picking up gently used uniform pieces.
Please remember that this evening is for parents only. There is simply not enough room in the classrooms for both parents and students to be present. Children are welcome, however, to join us for our Open House on January 28, 2018.
Mark your calendars for Thursday morning, September 28th for our first “Coffee with the Principal” from 8:30-9:30am in the library. We will review the results of last spring’s End-of-Year Parent Survey, answer any questions you may have, and take ideas for future topics. Parking will be available on a section of the playground where you are free to park when dropping off your child/ren before school.
Finally, please read this DACA letter from Archbishop Sartain and the bishops of our diocese on their response to the changes in DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). Please keep all involved in the decision in your prayers.
Have a wonderful week!
Mary Sherman, St Anne Prinicipal
