Dear Families:
Last Tuesday the Pacific Science Center’s Science on Wheels program spent the day exposing our students to Physics. We began our day with an all-school assembly where students explored the properties of a mystery liquid (liquid nitrogen) and were shocked and amazed by a the “hair-raising” Van de Graff generator. Individual class workshops and visits to exhibits followed during the day. The students loved being immersed in Science and enjoyed delving into the world of light, sound, electricity and motion. Thanks to the proceeds from our SCRIP program, the day was fully-funded.
And…speaking of SCRIP, the holiday season is upon us and our fabulous SCRIP team has answers to all of your gift giving needs: Gift cards! Besides the most popular stores (Nordstrom, Macy’s, Target, Starbucks, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel etc.) there are numerous retail and specialty outlets who participate in the program. Just go to shopwithscrip.com, and you will find all the retailers who participate in the program. The team can special order in any of the denominations provided. In addition, there are grocery retailers such as Met Market, Ken’s Market, Safeway, Whole Foods and QFC for all your holiday gatherings.
Christmas orders will be accepted up until December 12th. They will be packed for pick up on December 18th. And for those really, really last-minute gifts, they will have a Scrip table for shopping at the Christmas program on Dec. 20th. Thank you Scrip team: Tiffany and Jeff Christianson and Susan Leonardson!
Please join us for a presentation by Internet Safety expert, Stefani Thomas, who will be with us Thursday morning, December 13th for two presentations in Banchero Hall. From 8:30am – 9:30am, she will present information for parents on navigating social media with your children and current trends and dangers. This is open to parents of any age children. Immediately following she will be talking to our middle school students (6th -8th grades) on how to be aware and learn safe practices when using social media and the internet.
Ms. Thomas has been with us before and continues to work extensively with law enforcement on internet crimes involving children. Her presentations are excellent and she shares a number of resources for parents. Don’t miss this opportunity.
