The excitement of Halloween is certainly in the air today, but students were not expecting the costumed character that greeted them at Prayer Assembly yesterday to announce the total amount raised at the Move-A-Thon. Straight off the nail-biting Seahawk victory against the Houston Texans, the Seahawk’s mascot, Blitz, brought the news that we surpassed our super goal of $38,000 and netted $45,012! Top classes (who got a personal visit from Blitz) were 1st place – 4th grade, 2nd place – Kindergarten and 3rd place – 7th grade.
The majority of the funds raised will go toward the purchase of a new Social Studies curriculum for next year but some is set aside for an all-school ice cream and dance party!
Our Halloween celebrations today were delightful. The class parties, parade and costume contest assembly, were all fun-filled and successful. Thank you to the parent volunteers who arranged the classroom activities and to the 8th grade Spirit Leadership committee for their organization of the costume contest and parade. There were smiles all around. Good luck tonight and keep those kiddos safe!
Please join us for our All Saints Day Mass tomorrow morning at 8:45am. The 5th grade, along with Mrs. Hickman and Señora McNamara, have been working on a bi-lingual liturgy in Spanish and English. Following the Mass, please stop by the school to see the amazing Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) altars.
All students in grade PreK-8th have been working hard preparing for All Souls Day – the Day of the Dead, a holiday which honors loved ones who have passed away. Students are learning about traditions and each class is embracing the holiday by working together to build their very own altar, known as “ofrendas” in Spanish. Bright colored flowers, papel picado, calaveras de azúcar and esqueletos are taking over our hallways in honor of this joyful celebration. Students are invited to bring in photos and objects that were special to their loved ones to place on their altars.
On Monday, confirmation letters for your student’s Parent-Teacher Conference were mailed to your homes. If you did not receive it, please contact Laura Bonney for the day and time of your conference.
Just a reminder that there will be a noon dismissal next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, November 7th, 8th, and 9th for conferences. November 10th is the observance of Veterans Day and there will be no school.
Finally, thank you to all families who have filled out and submitted the Accreditation Survey. We have reached our goal to earn a Free Dress Day (Yay!), but would love to see more participation and have extended the deadline to end of day tomorrow, Wednesday, November 1st. Click here to take the survey.
Have a great Halloween!
