Kids have a blast learning The Royal Game—they love learning new tactics and tricks that immediately help them play better and win more often. They also love the social aspects of the game. You would be surprised how loud and rockin’ chess club gets when everyone is playing games (after the lesson portion).
We usually have 3-7 players competing successfully at the State Scholastic Championships in April and we have had 2 players compete at Nationals (in Dallas, TX once and Nashvile, TN twice).
We invite all K-8th grade students to join the St. Anne Chess Club – now in our 7th year! We’ll meet Monday evenings in the Science Lab beginning October 30th and running thru the end of March.
Beginners: 5:30 to 6:30pm Taught by St. Anne Parent Chris Hurley (Dad of Jane – 7th). Kids will learn the basic tactics and strategies for chess play in a fun and welcoming environment.
Intermediates +: 6:30 to 7:30pm. Taught by Josh Sinanan, National Master, Lakeside HS Chess Coach and President of the Washington Chess Federation. We’re lucky to have Josh join us for a second year as he helps kids build their chess and strategic thinking skills through his fun and engaging approach to the game.
Chess Club members are invited to participate as a team in various chess tournaments around the city. Dates will be shared as we have them. These are strictly optional.
We will also host 2 chess tournaments at St. Anne that we hope our kids will participate in. They are a great opportunity to get exposure to chess tournaments in a familiar environment, particularly for first timers. Funds from the tournaments help us pay chess club expenses; especially the fee for Coach Josh.
Registration is $15 and includes a chess club t-shirt – please use this link.
